Defining Data with the Data Definition Wizard

The Data Definition Wizard (DDW) guides you through the process of creating a table layout, so you can begin analyzing data.

There are several steps in the file definition process:

• Select the platform (Arbutus Servers only)
• Select the data source
• Identify the character set of the data source (optional)
• Identify the file properties of the data source (optional)
• Define the fields/records
• Edit the field properties
• Finish

Depending on the choices you make, you may see more or fewer panels and choices as you travel through the Wizard. You always have the option of going back to change the selections that were made.

Using the Wizard is easy. In most cases, you will only need to specify the data file or database location and select the data file or database table you want to define. Unless you are defining data for which you do not have a file layout, you can normally accept the Wizard’s analysis and click [Next] all the way to the end.
