Viewing the Command Log

Analyzer displays the Command Log tab whenever a command is executed. If the Command Log is not visible, click [Command Log] button on the button bar to display it. Alternatively, you can select Window from the menu and choose Open Command Log.

Commands in the Command Log are prefixed by the @ symbol. The first command of a session appears in red and subsequent commands appear in blue. Analyzer displays the results following each command in black.

You can scroll forwards and backwards to look at every command and result in the log. This includes commands and results from previous Analyzer sessions, up to the last time the log was cleared.

Command Log Options

Right-click in the Command Log to choose the appropriate display option. You can choose to display only commands, commands and results or just the last result. For more details see Command Log Right-Click Options.

Commands and Results

The Commands and Results option displays all commands issued and all results returned. This is the default option for the Command Log. Screen output for the Age, Benford, Classify, Crosstab and Stratify commands are displayed in tabular format.

Commands Only

The Commands Only option hides all information in the log except commands. This makes it easy to find a particular command when you want to reissue it.

Last Result

Often the results of your command will be many lines in length. The Last Result option always positions the most recent command at the top of the Command Log window. This makes it easy to click the command to select it for editing or to double-click the command or result to graph the output for graphable commands (Age, Benford, Classify, CrossTab and Stratify).

Find

The Find option makes it easy to find text in the Command Log. In the Find dialog, enter the name of any text item such as a command name or a field name, choose [Up] or [Down] for the direction you want to search, then click [Find Next]. Analyzer will find the next occurrence of the character string you are searching for and highlight it.

Edit Commands in the Command Log

To edit any command, click the command name in the Command Log. This will place the command on the command line. The command can then be manually edited. If the command has a command dialog, click the Edit Command button on the left of the command line to display the command’s dialog showing all the parameters used or available for use.
