Defining IMS Segments

To access and define IMS data, the Arbutus zSeries Server must be configured with the optional IMS interface and the Enable IMS option in the server profile must be selected. For more information, see Enable IMS under Server Profile Options.

To define a table layout for an IMS segment, select the IMS radio button on the Select Server Data Source panel and click [Next].

1. The Select IMS Segment panel displays available IMS segments. Choose the segment path that you want returned from IMS. You can use the speed search to jump down in the list simply by typing in the first part of the segment name.
2. If you only wanted to see an individual segment without the hierarchy/path, click the “Only Selected Segment” checkbox. Click [Next].
3. From this point, the remaining steps in the data definition process for IMS segments follows a similar process described for defining a standard file format starting with File Format - Arbutus zSeries and iSeries Server Data.

Note: IMS key fields are identified using the NATIVE field modifier. The field name used with the NATIVE field modifier is the name that IMS uses for this field and must not be changed. For more information see Native and Key Fields.

4. Alternatively, if external definitions exist that define the selected IMS segments, select the “External Definitions” radio button in the File Format panel and click [Next]. Then follow the process described for Defining Data Using External Definitions.
