You can activate a workspace to temporarily use its field definitions with any table. However, the field names used by the computed fields must be the same in all tables with which the workspace is activated. For example, you may have a workspace that contains the field Value=SalePr * QtyOH. To activate this workspace, the current table must have the fields SalePr and QtyOH already defined.
To activate a workspace, do the following:
1. | Open the table with which you want to use the workspace field definitions. |
2. | In the Overview, right-click the desired workspace and select “Activate”. |
Note: If you activate a workspace field with the same name as one of those in the table, Analyzer displays a message box, asking if you want to replace the table field. Click [Yes] to temporarily replace the field definition in your current table with the field definition in the workspace for the duration of the session or click [No].
The workspace field definitions are now made temporarily available for processing and inclusion in Views and reports for the currently open table. After activating a workspace, all list boxes containing field names now temporarily include the workspace fields.
Workspace fields do not appear in your View unless you manually add them.
Note: When activated, workspace fields are temporarily made available to the current table layout. When the table is closed, the workspace fields are removed from the table layout. For this reason be cautious adding workspace fields to Views.
You can also activate a workspace in command mode. In command mode, you can also activate a workspace for an open secondary table. For details, see Activate.
When issuing commands, you can select workspace fields and treat them as you would any other field in the table. However, if you issue an Analyzer command that creates a a new file based on a record extraction (for example, if you use the Extract command to extract records to a file or if you sort), no workspace fields will be included in the extracted file. If you want to extract any or all of the workspace fields, use the Extract command to extract fields instead.
Note: The extraction of workspace fields makes them permanent fields in the output file.
