Field definitions describe the kind of information in each field and the way you want to use that information in Analyzer. They contain the following information about each field:

| • | Type of data it contains (character, date, numeric, logical, computed, etc.) |
| • | Start position in bytes |
| • | Length in bytes |
| • | Number of decimals / input date formats |
| • | Additional parameters |
