Defining Adabas Data Sources

To access Adabas data sources, the Arbutus zSeries Server must be configured with the optional Adabas interface.

Choose the Adabas radio button in the Select Server Data Source panel and click [Next]. The Select Adabas Data Source panel is displayed. To define an Adabas file choose “Select Adabas File”. To define an Adabas data source using an FDT (file definition table) choose “Select Adabas FDT.

Select Adabas Data Source

Select the desired Adabas file from the pull-down menu and then select the desired fields and click [Next].

Note: As Adabas native field names are only two characters, the field names may conflict with Analyzer reserved words. If a naming conflict occurs, the Data Definition Wizard will automatically add a “2” character to the end of the Adabas field name to resolve the conflict.

Note: If the desired Adabas file does not appear in the pull-down list, select the “All Files” entry in the pull-down list and you will be prompted to enter the Adabas file number and optional file name. If a field list for the specified file number can be constructed, then the file will be added to the Adabas file list.

Select Adabas FDT

Select the Adabas FDT (file definition table) and click [Next].

Select the desired Adabas FDT external definition and click [Next].

Note: Only one Adabas FDT can be selected and defined at a time.

You have two options when choosing your FDT:

If the comment section of your FDT specifies a long field name, select the "Process FDT Comment..." checkbox to use this as the Adabas field name, otherwise the short Adabas field name is used.
Where Adabas fields have Group occurrences, choosing the Create Fields for Group...” checkbox will create unique fields for each occurrence.

Note: When selecting an Adabas FDT, all fields will be chosen. There is no opportunity to select only desired fields. Also, as Adabas native field names are only two characters, the field names may conflict with Analyzer reserved words. If a naming conflict occurs, the Data Definition Wizard will automatically add a “2” character to the end of the Adabas field name to resolve the conflict.

Specify Where and Order Clauses

You can use Where and Order clauses to filter and order the selected Adabas data. Click [Next] to advance to the FINISH panel.

When selecting fields for the Where and Order Clauses, only Adabas fields defined as Descriptor fields will be shown in the list of columns.

Note: Select the Physical Read checkbox to provide efficient sequential access to your selected Adabas data.

Note: To easily add the full column name to the Where or Order clause, simply place the cursor in the desired clause text box and then double click on the desired column name in the columns list.

Final Panel

The Final panel of the Wizard provides you with a quick summary of what has been defined. If you need to make changes click [Back], otherwise provide a table layout name and click [Finish].

Note: A View of the source data appears displaying all defined fields.
