Overview Options

Analyzer enables you to display a list of external file types (for example: Excel spreadsheets, XML files, Word documents, etc.) within the Overview. This list is stored for use by the Analyzer and is displayed for each open Analyzer project.

To display specific external file types within the Overview, the individual file types must first be mapped to the desired application to be used to open the file type (such as Excel, Text Editor).

Once mapped, any mapped external file type encountered within the project and its sub-folders will be displayed within the Overview. Double-clicking upon an external file type in the Overview wil open that file type within the desired (mapped) application.

Any external file types listed within the Overview will be displayed within the project folder or sub-folder in which it is encountered. The external file will display its full file name and extension along with the application icon from the mapped application. This makes identifying external file types visually easy.

Displaying external file types for subsequent access is especially useful when exporting data from your analysis so you can easily view the exported results.

Mapping External File Types to Applications

The following steps should be completed for each desired external file type:

1. Choose the file extension from the "Available Extensions" pull-down menu.
2. If the file extension is not found in the pull-down menu, you can enter it in the left most text box (for example: .XLSX)
3. Analyzer will (where possible) automatically insert the most applicable application's executable name in the application text box.
4. To modify or choose an application to which you wish to map the specified file extension, click [Open With], then browse to and select the executable for the desired application.
5. Click the [Add] button to add the mapped file extension to the list of selected extensions.
6. Repeat this process for each external file type or to add a new external file type at a later date.

Once you have completed the mapping of any desired external file types, click [OK] and the Overview will automatically re-draw to display the selected external file types.

Modify of Removing Mapped External File Types

To remove a mapped external file type simply click on the desired mapped file type in the list of "Selected Extensions" and click [Remove].

To modify a mapped external file type, first remove the file type from the the list of "Selected Extensions" and then map the external file type to the new application.
